Dalma (ଡାଲମା)



Ingredients:

  • Chana dal(soaked) - 100gm(ବୁଟ ଡାଲି)
  • Raw papaya(cube size) - 50gm(ଅମୃତ ଭଣ୍ଡା)
  • Potato(cube size) - 2 medium (ଆଳୁ)
  • Dry chili -4(ଶୁଖିଲା ଲଙ୍କା)
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp (ଜିରା)
  • Raw banana(cube size) - 1 medium (କଦଳି)
  • Carrot(cube) - 1 medium
  • Bay leaves - 1(ତେଜ ପତ୍ର)
  • Turmeric powder - ½ tsp (ହଳଦୀ ଗୁଣ୍ଡ )
  • Tomato - 1 medium
  • Refined cooking oil/ Ghee - 3-tsp(ତେଲ)
  • Roasted dry chilli and jeera powder - 1 tsp (ଜିରା ଲଙ୍କା ଗୁଣ୍ଡ)
  • salt to taste (ଲୁଣ)

Method:

  • Wash the vegetables thoroughly. Cut them into small pieces.
  • Put the vegetables, chana dal, salt, ½ tsp turmeric powder and 3 to 4 cups of water in a Pressure Cooker and boil on medium flame.
  • After one whistle switch off the gas. A little later as the pressure of the cooker is released, open the lid.
  • Now heat 3 teaspoon of oil or ghee in a frying pan. Add jeera,bay leaves,dry chilly.
  • Fry till they turn golden brown. 
  • Now add all this to the boiled dal and vegetables of the pressure cooker and stir well.
  • Add roasted chilly and jeera powder. Close the lid and heat further for 2 minutes
  • Server hot with plain rice  or khichdi.
